What Can We Do To Have More Fun While Encouraging Positive Changes? (I LOVE This Video!)

This short video shows the kind of outside-the-box thinking that can change the world. Period. You simply can't watch this and not want to do this yourself. I'm already thinking about how I would recruit several friends and we would figure out how to play Ode to Joy. And, of course, this evokes that famous scene from the FAO Schwarz toystore from the movie Big, with Tom Hanks. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

As I've said at several different sustainability meetings lately, "This stuff is the FUN stuff, folks. If we're not having fun, we're doing something wrong."

How can we have FUN here in Dunwoody, and make positive sustainability changes, too?

I was at the Comp Plan steering committee meeting last night and we were talking about how to get more folks engaged in the process at the series of meetings coming up in targeted neighborhoods. I couldn't help thinking to myself, "A punch card that rewards people with discounts from local businesses!" Go to just one meeting, and get a 10% discount on a purchase from one of the participating local businesses. Boosts our local economy. Encourages citizen participation. And, dare I say it, could be fun. Although, of course, I'm sure there's a reason this can't be done because the meetings are a government thing and I'm guessing you can't have implied endorsement for a private business. But maybe it leads to another idea. That's how it works.

Think, think, think. It is the time for simple brilliance. We can come up with innovative, affordable ideas that work to encourage our citizens to walk, bike, drive less, recycle, conserve water and energy, and engage themselves in the process to create the most sustainable, livable, desirable city in the United States--or are at least have lots of fun trying.
